Here’s What You Need for Your Own Home Mini Bar

If your dream is to have your own well-stocked bar at home, here is a list of all the essential items you will need.

Before you even come up with cocktail recipes, you need to decide which alcohol you need to stock up in your personal bar. How do you pick from so many choices? Start by buying alcohol you enjoy, because you will be the bar’s first customer after all. Later, you can build up your stock of alcohol gradually as you make more cocktails. If you don’t have anything in mind at the moment, begin with gin, vodka, scotch whisky, bourbon whiskey, rum, and tequila.

The type of mixers you will need will depend on the cocktails you plan to make. But if you want to have just the basic mixers, you should include the following: ginger ale, cola, pineapple juice, orange juice, tonic water, cranberry juice, tomato juice, and Angostura bitters. You could also look up the list of ingredients in the cocktails you’re planning to prepare.

The garnishes will also depend on the cocktails you have in mind, but if you want the basic garnishes for popular cocktails, you should have a supply of the following: lime, lemon, salt, pepper, sugar, cocktail olives, cocktail onion, and Tabasco sauce. Most of the garnishes, however, can be found in your kitchen, but you might need a different set for your personal bar.

Some people are specific with the glassware used for their drinks, that is why you should also have an assortment of glasses and cups if you’re planning to use the bar on special occasions with family and friends. Some of the basic glassware you will need include mugs or pint glasses, tall or highball glasses, martini glasses, wine glasses, martini strainer, martini shaker, rocks glasses, and others.

Ice and Ice Machines

You can’t create or serve drinks without ice, that is why you should have a supply of ice in your bar. There are different ice machines that can be installed in counter-type or underbar type settings. The following are the ice machines and other tools that will help you serve drinks: ice cube machine with bin, ice dispenser, soda dispenser, nugget ice machine, flake ice machine, and blender.

If you’re planning to host parties, you should have a proper storage area for all your supplies. A kitchen cabinet and undercounter refrigerator will usually do the trick. However, you might also want to consider special counter cabinets designed for a mini bar.

To complete the bar accessories, you will also need to stock up on other items such as shakers, strainers, jiggers, hand juicer, pour spouts, measuring tools, table napkins, rags, knives, spoons and bar spoons, coasters, and swizzle stick.
