Top-Grossing Movies in Singapore in 2012

Singaporeans have a great love for the movies, both local and international. Aside from shopping, eating, and engaging in sports, they going to the cinemas is one of our favourite ways to unwind.

Superhero-Themed Movies

According to the Box Office Mojo’s list of the 100 top-grossing movies in Singapore in 2012, it can be concluded that Singaporeans are infatuated with superhero-themed movies as the top 3 movies in the long list revealed The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Avengers, which features Hollywood stars Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, landed the top spot with US$11.1 million in earnings.

The Dark Knight Rises, starring Christian Bale as the caped crusader, is on the second spot with US$7.3 million. The movie is the final instalment of the Dark Knight trilogy by British-American film director Christopher Nolan.

On the third spot is another superhero-themed movie, The Amazing Spider-Man. The movie, which stars by Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, brought in total earnings worth US$6.9 million.

Jack Neo’s Ah Boys to Men

Meanwhile, the top local movie is Ah Boys To Men, which landed the fifth spot, following Skyfall. Produced, directed and co-written by Jack Neo, the movie boasted a total of $4.9 million in earnings.

Ah Boys To Men is a Singaporean two-part comedy film, with a story spinning around a group of army recruits. It stars Noah Yap, Wang Wei Liang, Maxi Lim and Joshua Tan. To date, Ah Boys To Men is the highest-grossing Singaporean movie.
